New book co-authored by Umid Bekmukhammad, a senior researcher at the Khorezm Mamun Academy and Doctor of Philosophy in History, and Sadokat Matkarimova, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor, has been published by the “Durdona” publishing house in Bukhara.

The monograph titled “The Khiva Khanate During the Period of Russian Colonialism: 1873-1917” examines the conquest of the Khiva Khanate by the Russian Empire and explores the socio-educational and economic processes that took place during the colonial period.

The period from the 1873 conquest to 1917 is studied through archival documents, contemporary press publications, memoirs, and scholarly literature. The monograph investigates the efforts of progressive reformers who carried out reforms even under colonial rule, as well as developments in agriculture, industry, and trade. It also examines the activities of German Mennonites in the region, the Jadidist movement, popular uprisings against colonialism, and the aspirations for independence led by the “Young Khivans” in 1917.
