Within the framework of the international project No. 2023E01007 entitled “Research on the Conservation and Cultivation Technology of Cistanche spp. in Natural Habitats,” scientists at the Khorezm Mamun Academy, in collaboration with researchers from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted joint scientific research. The studies scientifically demonstrated the feasibility of inoculating Cistanche deserticola into the root systems of plants belonging to the genera Haloxylon and Tamarix under the environmental conditions of Uzbekistan, and a technology for its cultivation under controlled conditions was developed. In addition, the possibility of cultivating this desert parasitic plant in degraded soils and sandy areas was established.
As an important practical outcome of the research, scientists from the Khorezm Mamun Academy developed a utility model entitled “Method for Cultivating the Parasitic Plant Cistanche (Shumgiyoh),” for which Patent No. FAP 3131 was granted by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The utility model was registered in the State Register of Utility Models of the Republic of Uzbekistan on August 18, 2026.
