A new species of spider has been discovered in Uzbekistan.

A completely new species of spider in the wolf spider family (Lycosidae) has been registered in Uzbekistan.
The study was conducted in collaboration with Mamun M. Bektursunova, PhD, of the Khorezm Academy of Sciences, her supervisor, Professor I. Abdullaev, and Dr. D. Logunov, a research fellow at the Institute of Zoology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The new species was discovered in the eastern part of the Ustyurt Plateau in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in the area of the Barsa-Kelmes swamp.
The new species, described for scientific use, has been named Karakumosa ustyurtica.
The species name is taken from the Ustyurt Plateau, indicating its connection to the type locality.
The holotype was collected in July 2025. The specimens were studied using morphological and taxonomic analysis. The type specimens are housed in the collection of the Institute of Zoology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
